Setting Our Eyes & Setting Our Goals

Updated: Dec 27, 2018

So here we are...staring into yet another new year. We knew you were just around the corner, but boy do you move fast. You never hesitate to slow down! Now that family has left, the decorations have expired, the eggnog is gone, and no more festivities to distract, we are left face to face. Maybe a new year frightens you. Maybe it excites you. Well sister, either way....2019 is almost here. So let’s cozy up, grab a hot drink, and embrace the new journey together.

Maybe it’s just me, but the end of each year seems fitting for reflection and goal planning.

A Time For Reflection

I truly believe when we take the time to look back and reflect on our past (specifically 2018) we can move forward - stronger. However, can I be honest with you? 2018 was one of the hardest years of my life. The kind of year that knocks you straight on your a** (multiple times), forces you to re-evaluate everything, and muster up more strength than you ever thought was possible. Yeah... that kind of year. Maybe you can relate? I am so very sorry to hear sister. You are not alone. Regardless, we are in this together.

Below I have created a list of questions to help guide your time of reflection.

  1. What was your best memory in 2018?

  2. Did you accomplish any goals? If not, why?

  3. What was one thing you learned about yourself? Personally + Professionally

  4. When were you the most stressed? Why do you think that is?

  5. What was the hardest obstacle in 2018? How/Who helped you through?

  6. If you could sum the year up in one word or sentence, what would it be?

Dancing, I mean, Moving Forward

Now close your eyes and take a deep breath. Inhale...1..2..3...and exhale ...1..2..3..4..5. You did it. You are here, alive and hopefully healthy. Now that we have reflected, we must let it go. Take the lessons you have learned, the strength you have built, and focus your eyes on the new beginning. Now we will develop our goals. Just as above, read through the questions and jot down your answers.

  1. What are you most excited for in 2019?

  2. List 3 goals (I suggest both personally and professionally)

  3. How do you want to improve both personally and professionally?

  4. How will you adjust in order to handle stress?

  5. What do you predict will be your biggest obstacle in 2019? What is your plan of attack?

  6. List one word you want 2019 to focus on/be? And list 3 ways you will achieve this?
